"Contemporary Sacred Art | Люсія Бондар" is a truly unique project that transcends time and borders, existing without geographical, gender, or age boundaries. This edition presents a powerful combination of religion, the spiritual and the earthly, heritage, and absolutely stunning modern art.

Our publication offers an insightful interpretation of ancient rich traditions and historical visual forms within the context of modern culture. The book showcases a wide selection of works by talented Ukrainian artists, exploring a diverse array of styles and techniques. Nowadays, artists in icon painting utilize various means, ranging from traditional tempera on a board to innovative textiles and works on glass.

Here, ancient sacred themes and motifs of folk art are masterfully combined with unusual color palettes and a modern artistic vision that not only inspires the heart but also delights the eye. While some of these real works of art reflect the influence of traditional Ukrainian-Byzantine church art, others exhibit striking modern iconographic features.

We have brought together both traditionalists and modern icon painters in this singular project. Notably, most of the participating artists are esteemed graduates of the Department of Sacred Art of the Lviv National Academy of Arts.

Modern icon painting created today in Ukraine represents a completely unique cultural product with recognizable characteristic features. However, its immense scale and significance are often insufficiently known and appreciated, both within Ukraine and globally. Our project precisely aims to rectify this oversight and bring this vital art form to wider recognition.
